American Wood Reface - Medina, Ohio
These homeowners were looking for a few upgrades that would make a big impact in their kitchen. The most glaring feature that needed changed was the countertops, as the laminate with a wood edge made the whole space feel dated. But in addition to transforming the appearance of their kitchen, they wanted a few functional upgrades as well, including a place to conceal the trash can and a desk area that would match the rest of the kitchen.
To give these homeowners the big transformation they were craving without changing the layout of the kitchen, we started by changing a few of the cabinet structures to make them more functional, converting a lower cabinet into a pull-out trash bin and converting the cabinet next to the fridge into a drawer bank for optimized storage space.
After these structural updates were made, we refaced the cabinets and installed new matching cabinet doors and drawer fronts in a more modern style. This not only improved the look of the cabinetry by changing from white to a richer wood color, but the premium solid wood we used helped increase the overall quality and durability of the cabinets. To further enhance functionality and aesthetics of the kitchen, we added under cabinet lighting, which helps illuminate the counter space for a better cooking and prepping experience, while also showing off the new backsplash and making the space feel brighter.
If you’re wondering how we’re able to make structural changes to cabinets without completely replacing them, well, that’s what makes refacing such a great option! Once the necessary cabinets are rebuilt, we reface all outward-facing elements with 1/4" solid wood overlay in the customer’s chosen wood type and finish, and install brand new cabinet doors and drawer fronts in the same wood and finish so that everything matches perfectly. The result is the look of totally new cabinetry.
To give the peninsula a more finished look, we installed wainscotting on the back in a black finish that coordinates with the custom-built desk we added to the kitchen area. In addition, we built a cabinet door on the back of the peninsula to offer easier access to deep cabinet space. The coordinating desk features the same Giallo Ornamental granite used for the countertops, making the desk feel like a part of the kitchen rather than a random and out-of-place addition.
We transformed the countertops from dated laminate with a wood edge to stunning Giallo Ornamental granite. This is veined granite with a creamy background and dark gray and brown veins, the perfect complement to the birch wood cabinets and beige backsplash with a mosaic band. This quality stone countertop gives the kitchen a high-end look while also offering lasting durability. Learn more about granite quality here.
