American Wood Reface Medina, Ohio
Akron, OH
These homeowners were tired of their laminate countertops, outdated cabinets and bland tile flooring. They craved an updated, modern kitchen with high-quality surfaces that reflected their personal style and offered increased functionality.
The kitchen’s outdated perimeter cabinets were refaced in walnut and the center island cabinets were refaced in birch with a black distressed finish. The style of the cabinets was updated to a more modern profile—flat panel cabinet doors with a modern frame—for a sleek look, and cabinets were extended to the ceiling for a dramatic design choice and added storage space.
The updated cabinets were topped off with brushed nickel bar pulls that compliment the stainless steel appliances and clean lines of the cabinet doors while also adding to the modern feel of the space.
The neutral beige colors of the Cambria quartz island countertop and new wood flooring were mirrored in the stone backsplash for a cohesive look. Another modern element that was incorporated into the space is the metal mosaic tile that was installed on the back of the island for an extra touch of style and protection against scuffing when people sit at the bar.
The color and texture of the stone kitchen backsplash compliment the island countertop to create a balance in color of the space. Pairing industrial elements with natural materials—such as the brushed nickel hardware and stainless steel appliances contrasting with organic and earthy elements like the stone backsplash and rustic flooring—creates a finished product that feels fresh and well-balanced.
