Cabinet Refacing in Burlington North Carolina

“The Eighth Wonder of the World”
Although Burlington was not incorporated until 1893, the city had been an important settlement for decades before that. This was due, initially, to the presence of the railroad, which reportedly dazzled the early residents.
The story goes that when the local people first glimpsed the train passing through Alamance County, (present-day Burlington is located in the Piedmont Triad, in both Alamance and Guilford Counties), they proclaimed it to be “the eighth wonder of the world.”
Of course, at this time, there was no city called Burlington. The Burlington name wouldn’t come about until the 1880s.
From shortly after the arrival of the railroad until the selection of “Burlington” as the city’s name, it was known by the somewhat uninspiring moniker, “Company Shops.”
If it’s further inspiration you’re after, then Burlington will provide it for you.
That’s because Burlington can lay claim to being the site of the first armed clash between American colonists and the British Crown, way back in 1771. (Of course, there was no Burlington yet in 1771, but you can visit the Alamance Battleground and Museum which is located just south of today’s Burlington.)
