Held in High Esteem

Greensboro is the most populous city in North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad, also serving as the county seat of Guilford County. Established in 1808, Greensboro was named for Nathanael Greene, a major general in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.

One of the most notable battles in the Revolution’s Southern theater was contested on land that is now in Greensboro. The Battle of Guilford Court House took place in March of 1781, and pitted Greene against the British Lieutenant General Charles Cornwallis.

Though the British won the battle, the American forces inflicted heavy losses upon them, and Cornwallis would eventually surrender at Yorktown in October of that same year.

You can visit Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, which commemorates this important battle, in Greensboro today.

More Attractions

Greensboro has even more to offer visitors who wish to enjoy the city’s hospitality.

Attractions include the Greensboro History Museum, the Greensboro Science Center, and the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, which commemorates the Greensboro sit-ins, and their part in the civil rights movement.

For visitors who are more interested in sports and action, Greensboro has you covered!

Greensboro is the home of the Wet ‘n Wild Emerald Pointe water park, which boasts one of America’s tallest water slides.

If you love baseball, then try to catch a Greensboro Grasshoppers game. Or, if basketball is more your style, then there’s the Greensboro Swarm of the NBA’s G League.
